November Felt Project

I bought several Shetland x Romney fleeces from Fern Hill Fibre earlier in the year and, together with naturally dyed Leicester Long wool, I have been exploring an abstract felt that reflects the countryside around my home. I am drawn to 3D sculpture, so added texture and movement on the piece is a priority.

Working in my new garage workshop …

Carded Long wool and Shetland for the base layer that is lightly rolled before adding the top layers of the abstract:

• Brown/grey unscoured Shetland x Romney fleece.
• Carded and Naturally dyed Leicester Longwool – Fustic and Buddleia.
• Undyed Leicester Longwool – lightly carded wool and locks

I am adding stitch from behind to create a textured, mobile surface.
