Day 6. Camino de Santiago

A day in Leon to get my boots repaired and to look around the historic city.

Santa Marรญa de Regla de Leรณn Cathedral

Built in the 12th century when the local population was just 5,000 souls.

The Leรณn Cathedral is mostly known for taking the โ€œdematerializationโ€ of gothic art to the extreme, that is, the reduction of the walls to their minimum expression to be replaced by stained glass, constituting one of the largest collections of medieval stained glass in the world. – Wikipedia.

It is absolutely beautiful- the towering, delicate vaulted ceilings supporting acres of stained glass.

Leon Cathedral

Interestingly, all the stained glass along the north side of the cathedral has cool blue hues that represent the Old Testament, whereas the stained glass on the south side is made of reds, oranges and warmer hues to represent the New Testament.

The transept

A truly spiritual church – I could have stayed all day! however, I took the bus to 6 km before San Martin and walked in.

Spent the night in San Martin at La Huella hostel – very comfortable and good food.

Leaving La Huella Day 7

Next stop Astorgaโ€ฆ
